The Event
In this fun and relaxed workshop, author Gita Ralleigh will guide you in mapping out your own island adventure, using inspiration from her magical middle grade novel The Voyage of Sam Singh. Together you’ll develop characters, brainstorm settings and come up with obstacles to create an exciting adventure story.

About Gita Ralleigh
Gita Ralleigh is a poet and writer who grew up reading fantasy adventures that took her to faraway lands. The closest she came was on family holidays to India, where old palaces, ice-capped mountains, monkeys and elephants were part of everyday life. Her children’s novels, The Destiny of Minou Moonshine and The Voyage of Sam Singh are published by Zephyr/Bloomsbury. She lives in London with her two children and teaches creative writing to science and medical undergraduates at Imperial College. She is one of the Poetry Society's Poets in Schools.

About The Voyage of Sam Singh
Sam's older brother, Moon, has been missing for three long years. Moon is a skilled thief, but Sam fears Moon's luck has finally run out. It's rumoured he's held in the Octopus, a notorious prison on the Isle of Lost Voices, from which no one has ever escaped alive. Leaving his tribe of land-pirates behind, Sam sets sail with the shady Professor Bogusz and his faithful parrot, Suka. With help from a young forest guide called Lola, they trek deep into the island's interior, a place where spirits dwell and the Octopus casts a deadly shadow.

With a storm brewing and the clock ticking, Sam is in a race against time to break into the prison, save Moon and find a brighter future for them all.

Children under 12 must have an adult with them at all times. Babes in arms do not require a ticket.

Directions

We The Curious is in Millennium Square in the centre of Bristol. There is plenty of cycle parking, it is a short walk from many city centre bus stops and 20 minutes from Bristol Temple Meads. You could also get a ferry!

If you are travelling by car, the venue is within the Bristol Clean Air Zone so you may incur a fee if you use a vehicle. There is a car park directly underneath the venue, with 22 blue badge spaces and lifts for access. Use BS1 5LL to get to Millennium Square Car Park.

About the venue
We The Curious is an interactive science museum, with a cafe, shop and main entrance. Storytale Festival is on the top floor, accessible from the side door that opens out onto Millennium Square, very near the shiny metal Planetarium. Look out for our signs and volunteers who will show you where to go.

Once you are in the door, there is a lift to the top floor, with accessible toilets and a large main room (The Rosalind Franklin Room). There will be buggy parking, a cloakroom and activities in that space. The events will mainly be taking place in rooms that immediately join onto the main room. There is also a balcony space outside. We will have headphones and a sensory space.
