It is National Pollinator Week! Is your garden full of monsoon flowers?

Join native plant expert Carianne Campbell for an evening of learning about how to be sure your monsoon garden is bursting with native plants for butterflies, birds, and other pollinators! The presentation will be online via Zoom, and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers. This is a companion class to Monsoon Food Gardening, which will be presented Wednesday evening. You can register for one or both classes.

Monsoon in Arizona is paradise for botany and bug nerds! Although our beautiful spring wildflowers get lots of attention,  many of the most interesting plants are actively growing in the late summer. Luckily, many of these species are becoming more available at local Tucson nurseries, and they are a joy to grow in your garden. This class will cover the basics of pollinator conservation and specific plants native to southern Arizona (including Maricopa, Pinal, Yuma, Pima, Santa Cruz, and Cochise counties) that can be used in your landscape to support native pollinators.

Carianne Campbell is a well-known advocate for native plant conservation and restoration, and has conducted projects large and small throughout the region.  She designs, implements, and monitors science-based restoration projects in both urban and wildland settings, and specializes in developing applied vegetation ecology methodologies to support site-specific restoration prescriptions. Her most recent work explores restoration approaches and methods that maximize resources for pollinators, particularly through the thoughtful use of diverse native plant palettes. She is an Advanced SmartScape Instructor with the UA/Pima County Cooperative Extension, and has served on the Board of the Society for Ecological Restoration, Southwest Chapter, as the President of the Tucson Chapter of the Arizona Native Plant Society, and as the WIldlife Habitat Representative on the City of Tucson's Landscape Advisory Committee. She has worked in the government, business, and non-profit sectors over the past 20 years, and recently has started her own consulting firm, Strategic Habitat Enhancements, LLC.
