Description
Marjolein Robertson: O
A show about the body. Marjolein embarks on the second instalment of her standup trilogy by looking at a health condition that, left unspoken about in the past, was almost fatal. Now, shaking off the shame and armed with knowledge, Marjolein talks through menstrual health with humour and another Shetland folktale. This time the oldest story of Shetland about the deity Sea Midder. This show is not for the faint-hearted, with 9 audience members fainting and another 18 walkouts during its run at the Fringe. However, this is not gore for gore's sake. This show has the potential to save lives. Also: JOKES.
Multi-award winning stand-up comedian, improviser, and storyteller Marjolein Robertson is one of the most exciting names on the circuit. Hailing from Shetland, the London-based performer was a finalist in the prestigious Channel 4 Sean Lock Comedy Awards 2024. Her 2024 Fringe show, O, was nominated for the NextUp BIGGEST Award in Comedy, achieving a full sell-out run at Monkey Barrel, and was officially named as one of the best-reviewed comedy shows at the festival by British Comedy Guide.
Regularly weaving traditional Shetland folktales within her comedy, Marjolein is celebrated for her relatable yet often surreal onstage presence. She ranked third in The List’s Hot 100 as one of the top Scottish cultural contributors of 2023, was a BBC New Comedy Awards finalist in 2022 and won second place in the Funny Women Stage Awards. Marjolein was also awarded Scots Speaker of the Year in 2022.
Marjolein is a regular panellist on BBC’s Breaking the News and The Good, the Bad and the Unexpected. Marjolein has also performed stand-up on UKTV’s Rosie Jones’ Disability Comedy Extravaganza and BBC’s Scotland Stands Up, and she has acted in award-winning BBC series Shetland. Marjolein has written for a number of comedy shows, including the BAFTA Scotland nominated Dinosaur for BBC.
2025 will see Marjolein taking her award-nominated standup show O on tour across the UK.
