At last, it's out with the children, in with the dogs!
They were cruelly denied entry to London's largest (and splashiest) paddling pool this summer, through heatwave after heatwave - but the doggies now finally get their chance, with our series of three Doggy Splash Days!
The first is on Saturday 19th September. Buttercup Bus will be on site serving up their fresh crepes, while the monthly market is also running at The Rookery opposite, and the Inkspot Brewery has its Shutters Up event.
On Sunday 27th September we have our Disco Edition splash day - just slightly livelier than normal, with our dog-friendly DJs spinning up some beats for your beagles and choons for your chihuahuas. Shiny disco accessories very welcome (both of you) to sparklify your photo opportunties.
And Bavarian Boy is back, with German sausages, beer and more for the humans.
Then on Saturday 3rd October it's our Oktoberfest Edition - again with a great food menu and some proper German beer from Bavarian Boy. There will be appropriate live music too to encourage the Oktoberfest spirit - so why not bring your Schnauzer for a Schnitzel and your Cavalier for a Bier!
All of them are really the same Doggy Splash Day at heart though, centred on a huge pool of some of the splashiest water available - suitable for everydog, whether they want a little paddle in the shallows or to spend hours charging through the middle of it.
We'll also have treats, snacks, puppuccinos and more from our friends at Bailey's Canine Kitchen and The Mud Room.
And a ball pit to rummage in, and bubbles to chase, and loads of tennis balls to fetch, and you can even have a beer! Everything for good girls and boys!
All proceeds from the events go to registered charity Friends of Streatham Common, to keep our vintage pool (funded by community donations, grants and local businesses) going into the 2027 summer season, and beyond.
The sessions
We're running four overlapping sessions during the day - aiming to keep things busy throughout, but not too busy. Each session is two and a quarter hours, so plenty of time for a good splash. We do reserve the right to close the gate to new arrivals, for hopefully just a short while, in the event that the pool becomes too crowded at any point.
About the pool, and how to get there
Streatham Common paddling pool is a very large open air paddling pool at the top of Streatham Common. Google Maps refers to it as the Rookery Paddling Pool - don't worry, it is the same thing, you can't go to the wrong paddling pool. The pool itself is about 30m across or 700sq m in area, set in a fenced-off area of grass and trees.
It's served directly by the 249 bus on Streatham Common North, and several other major bus routes run along the A23 at the bottom end of the common, five minutes' walk from the pool. The nearest train station is Streatham, while Streatham Common and Norbury stations are also walkable.
Free parking is available around the common. If aiming at a postcode, it's better to head for SW16 3BZ than the postcode Google Maps gives you.
There's lots of excellent dog-walking territory around the site, on Streatham Common and Norwood Grove.
Food and drink is available on site from our friends Buttercup Bus (19th Sep) or Bavarian Boy (27th Sep and 3rd Oct). The Rookery Cafe is just opposite, as are the Rookery Gardens (with a market on the third Saturday of the month, including 19th September).
