Stroud Brewery is finally old enough to drink! Between the 7th – 9th June, the brewery is offering bands, beats and beer for 3 days on 3 floors to celebrate its 18th birthday. Over 50 acts and DJs will be performing at the Malty Story Festival, including Thrill Collins and The Achievers, both bands with a UK-wide following. Children are very welcome during the day on Saturday, and a special programme of kids’ entertainment on Sunday will include a rock disco, live graffiti, bouncy castle and clown. The taproom will add some special editions to its usual range of beers: a limited edition of Budding – Birthday Budding – plus two of the most popular beers from the brewery’s past will be resurrected, as voted for by the public.

Friday’s Gloucestershire Extravaganza

The Festival kicks off on Friday with a showcase of Gloucestershire’s best talent. On the main stage, Thrill Collins will get the party started along with The Achievers (one of top touring Blues bands in the UK), Plucking Different, Komposa, DJs Fade and Juicy.

In the Balcony Bar, Love Circus will stage a burlesque show featuring Ana Toxin, Ivy Malice and Rafi Hula Hoop - hosted by Magnificent Mr Kai! Up in The Loft, DJ Jag P will host the Global Beats World Music Rave.

Beer today, gone tomorrow

Beer drinkers are in for a treat during the festival. The brewers have added a twist to the normal Budding to create a celebratory version called Birthday Budding. Plus very limited editions (only 160 pints of each!) of past favourites – Sno IPA and Redcoat IPA – have been brewed just for the weekend. The public, via the brewery’s social media, were asked which beers should make a return appearance and these two came out top of the vote. Redcoat is a rye IPA originally brewed in 2012, and Sno is a north-eastern IPA which was available in 2018. But once they’ve gone, they’ve gone!

Saturday’s grooving

The day-long programme on Saturday offers K-Dee, DJ Robbie Duncan, The Bob Porter Project, Man Like Bro, The Lookout, Adjua, The Honest Poet Society, Rudi, Skunkadelic & The Digital Kid, Pete Daisy, Neon Pumps, Jungle Cast, Nicky Blackmarket with MC Supa D, all on the main stage.

Wander up to the Balcony Bar to dance to Dub & Reggae Sound system Splash - brought to you by Stroud’s Valley Steppas - offering grooves from Midday to Midnight. This dance delight will include special appearances by Feat, Global Beats, Rising Youth, Champion Love DJs, Three Bags Full, Shaybae, George of the Jungle, Bryony, Buster, and Myogeniks.

Meanwhile, The Loft is hosting a day’s rave brought to you by Midlife Crisis (aka Jamie Rainbow and Sam T) together with Darius of Crooked Stylus.

Sunday’s chillzone & family funday

On the final day, D'artagnan, Kingsonik, The Swing Rioters, Albino Tarantino, Poppy Rose, Thee Ones, Fidel Cutstro & Symatic and DJ Queen Bee (legend of Bristol’s music scene) take to the main stage.

The Balcony Bar will host the Sweet Soul Sunday All Dayer with Tony Soulprano & Friends which includes the Kids’ Rock Party from The Rock Disco between 11am- 1pm.

For families, Mr Kai will be clowning around to entertain the children, kids can take part in a live graffiti session creating an artistic masterpiece, make lots of giant bubbles with Bubbly Heaven, or burn off energy at the Rock Disco!
