Introducing "The Suitcase" (5 short Films) is part of a groundbreaking and thought-provoking art project conceived by Anastasiia Petrenko (Ana), a visionary Ukrainian student pursuing an MA in International Development at UEA (University of East Anglia).

For this screening, we will have the collaboration of Bahara Parwani (Sanctuary Scholar, UEA),  who was directly involved in the making of this fantastic project. She will provide us with more details on how it was conceived and how it came to be.

This student-led initiative, born out of the Sanctuary Scholars program, looks at themes of loss and belonging as experienced by sanctuary seekers from Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, Türkiye, and Egypt.

Trailer:

The Suitcase is more than a series of short films; it's a testament to the resilience of those who seek sanctuary and an opportunity for the community to connect with stories that transcend borders.
Note: Viewer discretion is advised, as the films may contain content that could be traumatizing to some audiences.

During the same session, we will be looking at the new 2024 Multi-University Collab project
with 17 individuals from 9 different universities.

Universities Refugee Week 2024 involved a collaborative effort in the Finding Home in Education project, bringing together 17 individuals with lived experiences of forced displacement from 9 universities. The project explored the role of higher education in seeking sanctuary, resulting in posters and a short film. These resources, available in digital and hard form, aim to be valuable for the sanctuary network, higher education, and beyond.
