Basically, anything Ben Lewis plays is what I want to hear. Since I first heard him nearly 10 years ago he has been one of my favorite pianists in town. He has appeared at Studio5 several times, always with an interesting approach, thoroughly prepared and deeply thoughtful. I’m always eager to hear what Ben is going to bring next. I saw Ben recently and asked him if he’d like to perform again at Studio5 and his immediate response was that he’d been thinking a lot about doing something with Bill Evans’ music. Wow. Bill Evans has always been one of my musical heroes and I LOVED the idea. I can’t wait to hear what Ben does with this. And by the way, if you know Bill Evans’ work you may be aware that late in Bill’s life he recorded two critically acclaimed records with Tony Bennett. For this Studio5 appearance, Ben Lewis has not only assembled a great trio, he has invited vocalist Paul Marinaro to join them for part of the evening to perform some of those iconic Bill Evans / Tony Bennett selections.
