Here comes Day One of our Down Home Weekend, and we're jumping into it with a ball of energy. Check out the videos above for evidence and read about the acts below. We're thrilled to welcome the Sons of the Never Wrong back to the Studio5 stage, and are delighted to introduce the extraordinarily talented Jonas Friddle to our audiences. What a night this is going to be! Both groups explore innovative, fresh writing with tremendous respect for the long tradition of storytelling through song ... all delivered in glorious harmony. 

The Jonas Friddle Trio
Jonas Friddle is a singer, songwriter and Old-Time banjo player whose songs have received The John Lennon Songwriting Award, First Place in the Great American Song Contest and a nomination for Album of the Year in the Independent Music Awards. His tunes bear the marks of a musician who has done his time in pub sessions and square dance halls, and his writing is full of imagery, honesty and humor. Jonas' music has won multiple awards and been featured online at American Songwriter, Huffington Post and Paste. I've known Jonas now for a couple of years and since I first heard his music I've been trying to figure out a way to include him in our Studio5 events. I am so glad it's finally happening ... and not only is he performing, he collaborated with me in organizing this entire weekend! Jonas will be performing with Anna Jacobson (fiddle/trumpet/vocal) and Andrew Wilkins (bass). Trust me. You want to see this guy. –SR

Sons of the Never Wrong
The Sons have performed at Studio5 a couple of times and as soon as they get off the stage I'm eager to have them back. This soulful, eclectic, joyful group labels itself as alt-folk, but they draw from so many stylistic influences in their HIGHLY improvisational performances that I resist calling them anything other than spectacular. Especially if you've never seen the Sons before, I strongly recommend you stop reading this right now and click on the video clip above to watch a lovely profile (produced by our pal, Jay Shefsky for WTTW!) of this legendary band. Sons of the Never Wrong is a turbo-charged Altfolk trio from Chicago that delivers witty, whimsical songs with their signature soaring harmonies. In case you're wondering, they're two gals and a fella: Bruce Roper, Sue Demel and Deborah Lader. Their odd ball humor and spontaneous stories ignite their live shows and have earned them a cult-like international following for over 30 years. Combining influences of folk, jazz, pop and rock, their sound is wildly original, their energy is contagious and their banter is hilarious.
