After Corky Siegel’s huge solo performance last October, SO MANY people said to me, “Oh man I wish I would have told my friends about this”, or, “I know someone who would have loved this!” Well, people, here’s your chance to come back and bring your pals. Corky’s October show nearly sold out, so I wouldn’t waste time working out the carpooling for this one before getting your tix. When Corky approached me about returning this Spring, he pitched the idea of doing a duo show with his good friend, legendary saxophonist, Ernie Watts. Believe me, no arm-twisting was necessary. If the name “Ernie Watts” sounds familiar but you can’t quite place him, let me give you a Cliff Notes summary: 2-time Grammy winner Ernie Watts played for 20 years in the Tonight Show band with Doc Severinsen for Johnny Carson, he’s toured with the Rolling Stones, recorded with everyone from Marvin Gaye to Dizzy Gillespie to Paul McCartney to Aretha Franklin to Steely Dan to Frank Zappa. Aw heck, just check out his discography on Wikipedia HERE. Absolutely prodigious.
And Corky? Corky Siegel is a joyful musical force to be reckoned with. He is known internationally as one of the worlds great blues harmonica players, blues pianist, singer and writer of unusual songs, a Chamber Blues progenitor and sole pioneer/composer of award-winning revolutionary works that weave blues and classical forms together. At a young age, he learned his craft - personally - at the feet of such legendary first generation bluesmen as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, Little Walter, and Otis Spann. And on top of that, he’s charming and funny.
Whatever Corky and Ernie cook up for our final show in our Spring series, serve me a large portion, please.
