When I was planning our Fall performances at Studio5, this particular date jumped out at me. I realized that November 8 would just be three days after the election. Without any way of knowing in advance what would happen that week, the only thing that made sense to me was to be certain our event on 11/8 would fill the room with love. So I did what felt obvious to me: I called Sarah Marie Young. She heard me, joyfully accepted the challenge, and I am most grateful. Her exact response was: “Peace, Love and Understanding. We’ll play choice songs from my past 6 albums and some of our favorite feel good music.” Well, not only did Sarah assemble a fabulous band, she has worked together with my wife, Béa, to incorporate two beautiful contemporary dancers to appear alongside her during the performance. I recently saw a rehearsal and was moved to tears. Let's face it: In lots of places, we are broken. Let's hope some art can help with the healing.

I am writing this in August. I know our country has a difficult path ahead. My hope is that we face our hard work with joy, and gather together on 11/8 in the spirit of the fellow travelers that we are. –SR
