Every now and then an ensemble comes along where you know that each of its members is extraordinarily talented, and you're expecting that they will sound great in a group ... but then when you hear them together you don't just experience their gifts combined, something else happens, something sublime, almost magical. That's the experience I had when I first heard The Oh Yeahs. Don't take my word. Click on the video above. See? Come on. And that is the tiniest glimpse into their repertoire. The clip is obviously a Crosby, Stills & Nash cover, but hearing The Oh Yeahs in concert takes you on a voyage across genres, and each stop is one you want to take. We were obviously delighted to host The Oh Yeahs at Studio5 a few years ago, and it's hard to describe how thrilled Béa and I are that they are making a return visit. Oh – here's the even more special part: The Oh Yeahs just completed a new recording with a full rhythm section and they will be backed up at this performance by that remarkable group, performing songs from Painted Leaves.
