It's been several years since we've been fortunate enough to have Chicago jazz master Orbert Davis on our stage, and when he and I were able to lock down this date he was kicking around ideas on the phone and suggested "Davis plays Davis". This was a short meeting. How cool is "Davis plays Davis"?? Done. Sign me up. Miles Davis has a massive trove of material to mine, and who better to do it than the extraordinary trumpeter/composer Orbert Davis? Orbert is one of the most respected jazz artists working in Chicago today, for all the right reasons. He's a remarkable artist and a great guy – we are thrilled to welcome him back to Studio5.  I CANNOT WAIT to hear what Orbert and his talented cohorts cook up for us. –SR

Emmy-Award winning trumpeter, composer and educator Orbert Davis is co-founder, conductor and artistic director of Chicago Jazz Philharmonic (CJP), a 55+ piece symphonic jazz orchestra dedicated to bringing together audiences of diverse backgrounds through multi-genre projects. Over the past 30 years, Mr. Davis’ mission-driven career has evolved successfully from ‘making it in the music industry’ to being a true leader in Chicago’s arts and culture community. He is widely respected in not only all things JAZZ, but also for the distinctive ability to use his musical talents to make positive impacts on society through arts education and advocacy.
