Come experience one of our favorite performers in a truly “one of a kind” event. Our Spring 2026 season won’t officially start until later in February, but when we were given the opportunity to host the release of Paul Marinaro’s landmark, ambitious new album, Mood Ellington, we broke all of our own rules and quickly created a “pre-season” January event to mark the occasion. If you are a regular patron of Studio5 you likely know about Paul. His remarkable voice and artistry are well known to our audiences. But you may not know about this particular project and why it is so special. Over the past several years Paul has been working with our talented friend, Jim Gailloreto to produce a massive double album of 25 Duke Ellington and/or Billy Strayhorn compositions featuring 13 renowned arrangers including Alan Broadbent, John Clayton, Chuck Israels and Bill Cunliffe. At Studio5 Paul will be surrounded by nine stellar musicians as he performs selections from this important work, live for the very first time.
I often say that hosting the shows at Studio5 is in part a selfish act: Great musicians come to our stage to perform and I get to sit wherever I want. And wow, since this particular event has two performances, I get to hear this one twice! Not to brag. Hope you can join us. –SR
