Celebrate 90 years of Bobby ... and a new CD!

I have known and loved Bobby Lewis for more than a decade, going back to my days presenting shows at the Whiskey Lounge. It is hard for me to express how fortunate and honored I am to be, even in a small way, in Bobby's orbit. He is man of extraordinary talent and equal humility, a true, true gentleman. He remains a monstrous trumpet player, his work and artistry are absolutely legendary ... and he's funny as hell. Earlier this year Bobby celebrated his 90th(!) birthday. Come on. He CAN'T have just one celebration for that! He's one of a kind and we should all drink up every last drop of whatever he's serving. OK, now add to that the fact that he’s just recorded a NEW CD! Incredible – this guy is unstoppable! Bobby JUST received the discs back from the manufacturer so this show will also serve as a CD release concert for Feels Like Spring. What a fitting album title for the guy who is forever young. Happy 90th all year, Bobby! We can't wait to welcome you back.

Here's just a little background: Curtis Mayfield, Natalie Cole, Ramsey Lewis, Jerry Butler, Donny Hathaway, Gladys Knight, Tony Bennett, The Mills Brothers. Those are just some of the people Bobby has played with. Oh, and Peggy Lee. Peggy Lee! She said Bobby has “a sound like no other. I like him best when he plays in pastels, but every note is beautiful … is loving. Bobby loves life as he loves music … and I love Bobby Lewis.” Wow. In a career of more than 7500 recording sessions and over a dozen of his own CDs, musically, Bobby Lewis has seen and heard it all. In fact, he’s played it all. And at 90 years young he is still at it, stronger than ever. Bobby is unstoppable and ageless, and I must admit it feels like a pure act of selfishness when I invite Bobby to Studio5. I not only have a ball, I learn so much about music ... and life, just being around him. I am eternally grateful for his friendship and it will be an honor to present Bobby and his GREAT quintet again on our stage.
