Let's begin with the fact that as a young man, pianist Dennis Luxion toured Europe playing with Chet Baker. Let that one sink in. For those who may not know, legendary trumpeter/vocalist Chet Baker was revered for being a centerpiece of the cool jazz sounds in the 1950s. In this show, titled Remembering Chet — Songs & Stories of Chet Baker, well-known Chicago vocalist Petra van Nuis will team up with pianist Dennis Luxion to share personal stories and perform Baker’s iconic instrumental and vocal music. They have added three other outstanding musicians to the mix: Petra's husband, guitarist Andy Brown, a heavily respected player on the Chicago jazz scene, rock-solid bassist Dan DeLorenzo, and legendary Chicago trumpeter Art Davis. Art is comfortable playing jazz from many eras, but has a particular affinity for the cool jazz of the '50s, adding yet another layer of authenticity to the evening.
