"All at Once" – The Seldoms with Tim Daisy PREMIERE

All at Once is The Seldoms' new hour-long work of dance and live percussion in collaboration with Chicago percussionist/composer Timothy Daisy.
Six dancers. Three musicians. An evermore kinetic, kaleidoscopic terrain.
Premiere! October 16-17 at 7:30pm
The choreography unfolds as a living canvas, with limbs extending in sharp, disjointed angles that evoke Picasso's fractured planes and overlapping dimensions. –See Chicago Dance
Chicago-based The Seldoms kick off their 25th Anniversary at Studio5 with a world premiere! All at Once is a new Cubist-inspired performance work by The Seldoms and Tim Daisy involving contemporary dance, live percussion, and voluminous costume to create a kinetic, kaleidoscopic terrain. In All at Once, choreographer Carrie Hanson and the ensemble of six virtuosic dancers attempt to apply principles of Cubism to movement—an impossible unfolding of the three-dimensional body that drives invention. In his third collaboration with The Seldoms, composer and percussionist Tim Daisy has crafted an original work for three percussionists that relies on a structured architectural framework. This open design both meets the choreography and weaves in improvisation and chance operations to introduce risk and unpredictability. Featuring a diverse instrumentation of marimba, drums, cymbals, gongs, and an array of smaller percussion, the piece delivers a rich sonic palette, creating a dynamic acoustic environment to meet and juxtapose the dancers' driving, angular movement.
