Live at Studio5! CORKY SIEGEL SOLO CONCERT

Fri Oct 28, 2022 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Studio5 Performing Arts Center, 60202

Description

Singer, pianist and harmonica virtuoso Corky Siegel is a fabulous musician, clever songwriter, engaging storyteller, and an overall great showman. I remember seeing him live for the first time many years ago and leaving the concert thinking, "Ok, I have to try to steal that, and that and that." He is an absolute delight to hear and his shows are so much fun to experience – his onstage joy is just infectious. Well, like so many creative artists, Corky found innovative ways to entertain and engage with his fans via online programming during the pandemic. As he now begins performing again for live audiences we are thrilled that one of his stops will be on the Studio5 stage. Join us for an intimate solo concert by the one and only Corky Siegel! Please read the important COVID-related note below in red. –SR

BIO: Corky Siegel is known internationally as one of the worlds great blues harmonica players, blues pianist, singer and writer of unusual songs, a Chamber Blues progenitor and sole pioneer/composer of award-winning revolutionary works that weave blues and classical forms together. He celebrates 55 years of performance, a co-founder of the popular Siegel-Schwall Band, a Chicago Blues Hall of Fame inductee and Lifetime Achievement awardee. Corky has a catalogue of recordings on RCA, Vanguard, Alligator, and million selling blues/classical recordings on the iconic classical label Deutsche Grammophon. At a young age, he learned his craft - personally - at the feet of such legendary first generation bluesmen as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, Little Walter, and Otis Spann. In the earlier days of Chicago blues, he was an essential part in the blues rock revolution, and his surprising and continuing success in bringing together blues and classical audiences (with his symphonic and Chamber Blues recordings and performances) make him a pivotally unique figure in popular music history.

IMPORTANT: When we reopened Studio5 we made a commitment to our artists to respect their wishes regarding COVID protocols. Corky has requested that attendees be vaccinated and masked. He asked me to share this with you:

Cousin Corky here. I’m still requiring proof of vaccine and masks (both “reduce” viral load and work in all directions, offering extra layers of protection). People come to be uplifted and nurtured and take that home. I don’t want anyone to take Cyrus the Virus home and get sick from my music. LOL! When it comes to creating a clean and safe environment “for each other,” it’s really not such a big deal to wear a mask, show proof of vaccine, fasten a seat belt, or drive carefully. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to seeing your smiling and laughing … … eyes. :-) - Cousin Corky
