Our all-time favorite shows at Studio5 include performances by two artists: Stellar vocalist Paul Marinaro, and the beautiful artistry of the Metropolitan Jazz Octet under the direction of our talented friend, Jim Gailloreto. Well, on April 21st we will be honored to have them return TOGETHER in a beautiful, unique partnership: Exploring the music of David Bowie! Wow! If true art is about stepping outside one's comfort zone, this project is a perfect example. Bold and brave, Paul and the MJO take on the challenge of reinterpreting without replicating, honoring Bowie's lyrics and melodic/harmonic complexity while using the nimble octet palette to paint with intimate, nuanced colors. It's a warm sonic bath and it is breathtaking. If you are familiar with either Paul or the MJO, this is probably not the material you would expect from either ... but that's part of the point. This is extraordinary creativity on full display. Come celebrate the release of their new recording and hear this exciting project LIVE with us in this encore performance following their Studio5 sellout concert in February! – SR
