Guitarist/composer John Moulder always shows up with something thought provoking and wildly interesting. This performance will not only feature a kind of a “who’s who” of Chicago jazz, it will be a blending of a traditional rhythm section and horns with the addition of vibes (Thaddeus Tukes) and Indian percussion (Kalyan Pathak). The instrumental colors alone are so intriguing. This evening John will spotlight music from his Earthborn Tales of Soul and Spirit, a work originally commissioned by the Jazz Institute of Chicago for a featured performance in the Made in Chicago concert series in Millennium Park. The piece features musical portraits of diverse figures who have influenced John, including John Coltrane, Ruby Bridges and Thomas Merton.
   Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune wrote, “Fashioned as a vast jazz tone poem-complete with what amounts to an overture, three mini-suites and an ennobling final statement, Earthborn Tales of Soul and Spirit shows Moulder addressing profound questions on the meanings of life and afterlife.
