    The MJO features a rhythm section and FIVE horns, so imagine an ensemble that has both the light touch of a small group and a tight, powerful horn section large enough to provide the depth and richness of a big band. Now add to that a six-piece string section (guys! a string section!!) and the textural possibilities become absolutely delectable. But wait ... there's more. How about if on top of all that they add the beautiful, soulful voice of the one and only Dee Alexander? Well, that's exactly what we have. Dee and the MJO recorded a CD together celebrating the music of Billie Holiday (Too Hot For Words on Delmark Records) and this performance at Studio5, on Billie’s birthday, will be featuring music from that recording.
