Kilo Kāpala Part 2 — Fabric Printing Session
KILO KĀPALA AT LSHO!
Join us in creating your own aloha ʻāina inspired design and learning more about Native Hawaiian printmaking through our two-part workshop, Kilo Kāpala, literally meaning to print observations. We recommend you come to both for the best experience!
In our previous session (tickets sold separately), you'll learn the foundations of sustainability in Hawaiian culture and Hawaiian visual storytelling techniques through an interactive lesson. You'll explore your personal connection to aloha ʻāina and create a design using our hand-carved wooden stamps. Locally sourced seaweed paper will be provided for you to take home your print!
In this session, we'll build on the foundations mentioned above and focus printmaking. Using our stamps, we'll go deeper into the art of wood-block printing and transfer your design from paper onto fabric! Please bring your own clothing or fabric from home to embellish with your personalized design as fabric provided by us is limited.
What's included:
• A guided block-printing activity
• 8 types of hand-carved wooden stamps depicting contemporary and traditional Hawaiian motifs
• Premium quality GF Smith Notpla paper, specially infused with UK-sourced seaweed
What you bring:
• Wear clothes you don't mind getting ink on! Aprons will be available, but as this is a hands-on art activity, mess is always possible.
• Please bring clothing or fabric to print on as those supplies provided by us are limited. Have limited resources at home or don't feel like printing on clothes? No problem! We'll have paper on hand, so you can always make a nice print to take home instead.
• Yourself ;D
