Class Description:
The Gote, or Takate Kote, is one of the most iconic and foundational ties in Shibari. While much attention is often given to the technical aspects of tying, the experience of the person in the ropes —the rope model—is equally important. This workshop focuses on exploring the Gote from the perspective of the model, its beauty and its effect but also technical and physiological considerations. We will explore the emotional aspects of being in the Gote and how to communicate with your rigger for a more enjoyable and collaborative and connective scene. And we will also learn about the structure and purpose of this tie, and how it affects your body, identify potential risks and learn how to manage and mitigate them. This workshop is designed for both riggers and models who wish to deepen their understanding of this simple yet complex tie and want enhance their experience in ropes. The workshop will be a mix of discussions, Q&A, and practical exercises. It would be beneficial if the people tying/riggers would be able to tie a 2TK or at least the upper wrap.
What do I need to bring?
- If you have your own ropes, we strongly suggest that you bring your own set of ropes. We recommend 3-4 lengths of jute ropes, 5-6mm in diameter. Having ropes of varying lengths would be helpful. If you do not have your ropes yet, we will be happy to provide some for the class (first-come-first-served).
- Safety shears or any other suitable cutting tools (they will also be available at the studio for communal use)
- Notepad and a pen (we request a phone-free environment. If note-taking on your phone is a matter of accessibility, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate your needs)
- Comfortable clothing
- Snacks and drinks
- Aftercare items
- Respect, kindness and an open mind
What should I wear?
Please wear something that you feel comfortable tying in / getting tied in (in terms of movement and temperature). We advise against tight or restrictive clothing such as corsets, underwire bra, jeans etc. Please remove your accessories such as earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
You are welcome to get changed at the studio.
