A Kultum x Studium Space | ambar surastri collaboration
Jeda___Breathing Through Belonging is a recurring gathering for Indonesians in the diaspora to pause, breathe, and reconnect with our relationship to Indonesia particularly at times when home feels distant, difficult, or uncertain. Rather than asking whether we should #kaburajadulu – simply leave or disengage – this gathering will ask the community a different question:
How can we remain connected to a land, culture, and community we care about, even from afar?
Through breathwork, reflection, and conversation, participants will be invited to slow down and explore questions around belonging, identity, purpose, and collective care. The intention is to create a space where personal wellbeing and our relationship with the community can be considered together.
The gathering then gently moves from reflection towards connection: considering small and realistic ways we might continue caring, contributing, and maintaining relationships with communities in Indonesia from wherever we are. The intention is not to prescribe what that contribution should look like, but to create space for participants to discover what feels meaningful and sustainable to them.
Why Kultum?
Kultum–Kultur Bertumbuh means “a culture that grows.” Our work is grounded in Culture, Community, and Collaborations, using lived experience, gathering, and co-creating as starting points for meaningful change. Following our recent community programmes, we have become increasingly interested in another dimension of sustainability: how communities sustain themselves and one another.
Why ambar surastri at Studium Space?
Studium Space is a place of practice, (re)connecting to self and others in a fast-paced world in constant change.
Ambar’s mission is to support individuals and groups to reclaim their agency by remembering, reconnecting, and returning to the breath and self in a society that took them away. Her practice is rooted in radical love, decolonial healing and embodied social justice that helps us connect with ourselves and others. Being part of the Indonesian diaspora gives her more purpose than ever to hold space for a community needing support in their exploration of purpose and meaning.
Breathe for Indonesia: Jeda___Breathing Through Belonging allows us to explore wellbeing through a culturally grounded and communal lens connecting individual reflections with questions of home, diaspora, and collective belonging.
