THE CURRICULUM

The School of Love features 10 live classes hosted by Robert and Hollie. After each class, the recordings are uploaded to the Members’ Area.
Between classes you work with a weekly deepening practice. We also meet for monthly watch parties with conversations with guest faculty.
Here is a brief outline of the classes.

🌟 Class 1: Welcome to Love School

Robert and Hollie set the scene for our journey. You meet and greet your fellow classmates. Robert and Hollie offer opening reflections on how to live a love-centred life and make love your greatest resource. We get straight to work with an inquiry on Lessons in Love: What have you learned about love? What has love taught you? What are you learning about love now? Recommended reading for this class is Art of Loving, by Erich Fromm. Themes include:

  • The First Love – the Epistle by John the Beloved, studied by early Christian mystics, that teaches God is love.
  • Romeo and Juliet - the world's most famous love story, and Shakespeare's timeless reminder that when one generation chooses hatred over love, the next generation pays the price.
  • Psychology of Love – “In the final analysis, we must love in order not to fall ill,” said Sigmund Freud.
  • Art of Loving - exploring Erich Fromm’s “will to love” as our core motivation and the medicine for humanity’s deepest wound.
  • Love Expands Intelligence: “Love is the only emotion that expands intelligence,” said Humberto Maturana, biologist and philosopher.

🌟 Class 2: Miracle of Self-Acceptance

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change,” said Carl Rogers, a founder of humanistic psychology. In this class, Robert and Hollie share their therapeutic model for Love-centered coaching and spiritual direction. This model recognizes our inherent wholeness, how loveable we are, and that love is the evolutionary force that helps us grow and prosper. This love-centered model emphasises the difference between self-acceptance and endless self-improvement. Recommended study for this class is Robert’s book Loveability. Themes include:

  • The Eyes of Love – seeing the whole self, looking with the eye of the heart, recognizing how loveable we are.
  • Self-Love Quotient – what self-love really means, why it can be so difficult, and what helps us feel more loveable.
  • Loving the Unloveable – Hollie shares reflections on her poem Can You Just Love Me Like This.
  • Healing the Shadow - a love-centered approach to shadow work. “Your shadow is anything you do not love about yourself, including wounds and gifts,” says Robert.
  • Gift of Self-Love - the more you love yourself, the more you are able to love others.

🌟 Class 3: Only Love is Real

In our third class we focus on the Easter Story as seen through the eyes of love. We explore a love-centered approach to heartbreak, death, loss, and grief. We reflect on the never-changing love that is stronger than death. We explore the resurrecting power of love and the ongoing process of life being renewed by love. Recommended study for this class is The Strength to Love, by Martin Luther King Jr. Themes include:

  • A Heart Broken Open – healing heartbreak by being open to love as a teacher, healer, and guide.
  • Dark Night of the Soul - recognizing the holy purpose of a dark night of the soul and how it prepares you for a deeper experience of love.
  • Love is being reborn how the path of love requires dying to your old self and letting yourself be born anew.
  • Telling a New Story – what is the sad story you tell yourself about love? Imagine letting love help you rewrite your story.
  • Practising Resurrection – turning wounds into wisdom, scars into beauty marks, and the courage to rise again in love.

🌟 Class 4: The Blocks to Love

"Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it,” teaches A Course in Miracles. In this Class, Robert and Hollie share teachings from A Course in Miracles on removing blocks to the awareness of love. In truth, love cannot be blocked, only denied or overlooked. “The universe of love does not stop because you do not see it, nor have your closed eyes lost the ability to see,” teaches the Course. Recommended reading: Return to Love, by Marianne Williamson. Themes include:

  • The Primal Wound – our perceived separation from nature, heaven, God, and each other is humanity’s most persistent block to love.
  • Doctrine of Original Sin – a love-centered approach to sin that teaches sin is a mistake, not a punishable offense.
  • Dropping the Knife– the unholy trinity of fear, judgment and guilt that puts us on trial, accuses us of being unloveable, and argues against love.

  • End to Special Guilt – undoing the erroneous belief that you must deserve and earn love.
  • Letting love in – noticing how you make it difficult for people to love you.

🌟 Class 5: Instrument of Love

“Love is constantly creating future possibilities for the good of all concerned—even, and especially, when things go wrong,” wrote Richard Rohr, Eager to Love. In this class, Robert and Hollie focus on making ourselves an instrument of love. They draw inspiration from their spiritual retreats to Assisi, Italy and upon the teachings of St Francis and St Claire of Assisi. Recommended reading: Eager to Love, by Richard Rohr. Themes include:

  • Love is your purpose – your purpose to let love work through you in all that you do.
  • Work is love made Visible – a meditation on work and love by Kahlil Gibran, author of The Prophet.
  • The Heart of Success – the greatest guarantee of success is to add more love to everything you do.
  • Love in Action – love is the creative spark, the artist’s muse, the heart of activism, and the key to living an inspired life.
  • How can I serve? May I this day be an instrument for love and healing.

🌟 Class 6: The Voice of Love

"Let the voice of love guide you home to your truest, most beloved self,” wrote Henri Nouwen, The Inner Voice of Love. In this class, Robert and Hollie share a love-centered approach to inner listening, practicing mindfulness, and living a guided life. They also explore the original aim of psychology which is to connect with the Mind of Love. "One word frees us of all the weight and pain in life. That word is Love,” said Sophocles. Recommended reading: Life Loves You, by Louise Hay and Robert Holden. Themes include:

  • Life Loves you – developing a basic trust in life and trusting that your intuition will lead you on the path that’s right for you.
  • Love and Fear – recognizing the difference between fear and Love. “You know the truth by the way it feels,” says artist India Arie.
  • Love is your Guide - allowing the loving hand of the universe to guide you in your decision making and actions.
  • Love is the Answer - a meditation from A Course in Miracles on letting yourself be sustained and guided by love.

🌟 Class 7: Nine Paths of Love

In this class, we deepen our relationship with love using the wisdom of the Enneagram. The main focus is on the Passion of each Type and the Virtue for each Type. The word “passion” refers to the suffering – or block to love – in the heart center. The Virtue refers to an essential quality of your True Self that helps you to live a more love-centered life. Recommended study: Robert’s book Becoming Yourself. Themes include:

  • The Path of Love – working with the Enneagram to help you walk the path of love.
  • The Knowing Heart – how well do you know your heart? How do you experience the wisdom of your heart?
  • The 9 Passions – learn about the Passion of your Ennea-Type and how to meet the passion with compassion and love.
  • The 9 Virtues - learn a spiritual practice that helps you work with the Virtue of your Ennea-Type.

🌟 Class 8: Let Love Find You

“You attract love not by looking for love, but by becoming the most loving person you can be,” wrote Robert in Loveability. In this class, Robert and Hollie share lessons and stories about their mentor Tom Carpenter, author of Let Love Find You. Tom led a study group on spiritual psychotherapy for practitioners and students that gathered for more than 15 years. Recommended reading: Let Love Find You, by Tom Carpenter. Themes include:

  • Nothing Wrong with You – freeing yourself from the erroneous belief that ontologically something is wrong with you.
  • Identifying with love – “Who am I? and “What is love?” – the answer to these two questions is the same.
  • The Search for Love – “The search for love is really the search for Self,” said Tom Carpenter.
  • Miracle of Forgiveness – how forgiveness increases your capacity to attract love.
  • Presence of Love “The decision to be the presence of love is the most powerful influence you can have in any situation in your life and in this world,” said Tom Carpenter.

🌟 Class 9: Loving the World

Imagine your only purpose in life is to love the world. How would you begin? In this class, Robert and Hollie explore the meaning of “loving the world” which is the great commission of Christianity and common aim of most wisdom schools and religions. Together, we will practice the Buddhist Loving Kindness Meditation, known as Metta - which Robert describes as “the best prescription for mental health on the planet.” Recommended reading: Be Love NOW, by Ram Dass. Themes include:

  • Infinite Well of Love – starting each day by connecting with an infinite well of love inside you.
  • Kindfulness – setting the intention to be kind to yourself, to loved ones, to your neighbours, to anyone who annoys you, and to the world.
  • Holding Everything in Love – giving everything that is difficult or painful to the cosmic-Sized LOVE that holds you.
  • I AM Loving Awareness – a beautiful meditation by Ram Dass on how to live a love-centered life.

🌟 Class 10: Ordained by Love

“There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer: no disease that love will not heal: no door that enough love will not open,” wrote Emmet Fox. In our final class, you will review your time at the School of Love. What have you learned? How have you grown? We end with a sharing – Ordained by Love - in which we share a vision and vow for our next steps.

  • Love is your Power - “I still believe that love is the most durable power in the world. I think I have discovered the highest good. It is love,” said Martin Luther King Jr
  • Baptized in Love – exploring baptism through a mystical lens, the purpose of which is to be reborn in love.
  • Love is the Way - love is the way, the truth, and the animating force that lives in us.
  • Messenger of Love – sharing a message about love that you would most like to tell the world.
