Suicide Prevention Scotland screening - What I want you to know

Suicide Prevention Scotland will launch our new film, What I want you to know, at a previewing screening on Tuesday 08 September 2026.

The event will take place at the home of Heart of Midlothian FC:

Tynecastle Park
McLeod Street
Edinburgh

Timings are as follows: 

• Registration/refreshments: 5.30pm
• Event starts: 6.15pm
• Event ends: 7.15pm 

The film features the story of Phil Wanless and his son Fraser who died in 2021. It will confront the reality of trauma, relationships, substance use, isolation - and ultimately suicide. 

In the film, Phil learns to see what he couldn't see at the time. Fraser, was the one everyone remembers as the helper, not the one who needed help.

He didn't know his own words had become something Fraser felt he couldn't live up to. Living with the trauma of finding his mum dead, challenging relationships, substance use, and isolation, Fraser ended his life.  

What I want you to know follows Phil as he comes to understand what Fraser was carrying, and then turn that understanding outward, making sure other people don't get missed the same way.

Supporting the documentary will be a pack that explores a series of What I want you to know 'themes', different ones of which will be relevant to different people.

Whether you work in suicide prevention, have been bereaved, experienced suicidal thoughts, or have never encountered any of it, there is something in this story everyone can learn from. 

We're pleased to confirm that Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Mental Wellbeing, Public Health, Sport, Alcohol and Drugs and Cllr Paul Kelly, COSLA's Health & Social Care spokesperson will join us on the evening.

This film is extremely powerful and moving but some viewers may find the content distressing. Listening support will be available on the night for anyone who needs it.
