Description
Wallpaper maker Deborah Bowness and painter Oliver Crowther invite you to a flag making workshop. We will consider flags as visual language that draws on a variety of influences and applications: from heraldry to semaphore; state identity to public installation and street celebration. To mark Leek Textile Week we will be considering the legacy the textile industry left on the townscape through the building of mills the community that evolved in and around them.
You will explore a variety of processes including fabric collage, block printing and painting.
This is a free workshop and is suitable for children and adults.
Where: The Nicholson Institute, Leek, Staffs, ST13 6DW.
Time: 11:00 am- 12.00 pm / 12.00 pm - 1:00 pm
Running from 23-29 September 2024, Leek Textile Week will comprise a series of community-focused activities, talks and exhibitions that celebrate the town’s rich textile heritage. We will weave threads of the past into the present, spinning new connections with artisans from India and beyond whose knowledge helped transform the local industry. See what's on during Leek Textile Week here and find out about the three artists that League of Artisans have commissioned to bring to life oral histories from Leek's textile past here.
Leek Textile Week is funded through Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants and Creative People & Places programme and Historic England’s Everyday Heritage Grants: Celebrating Working Class Histories.
By booking tickets, you consent to photography/filming from the event by OUTSIDE to promote the programme and its projects, events and activities.
