THE NINE! Webinar series devoted to the Nine Maidens of Lyfjaberg with Imelda Almqvist

People often ask me why I work within the Northern or Old Norse Tradition, because “the material is so focussed on male gods and male heroes”. My reply is always that this observation is only true on the surface level. In reality there are mysterious realms of incredible feminine power at the heart of our ancestral Northern European Tradition.

There is a mysterious Mountain of Healing at the heart of Norse cosmology. On this mountain resides a mysterious goddess called Menglöð (most scholars believe that she is really Freyja appearing under another name!) and her Nine Maidens, who are all powerful healers, (with different specialisms), in their own right.

We know this from an ancient text by the name of Fjölsvinnsmál. It describes this Mountain of Healing. We learn that an (otherworld) pilgrimage to this Mountain is prescribed especially for women who have run out of other options (often mainstream medicine interventions). As a final resort, she must climb this mountain and put herself in the hands of the most masterful Divine healers of the Old Norse Traditions.

The Nine Maidens are also known as the Nine Disir, deified and compassionate ancestral women. Climbing this mountain can bring healing miracles, in some cases, no matter how ill or "dis-eased" a person is.

In 2016 the Nine Maidens of Lyfjaberg called me to undertake an apprenticeship with them. Here is the link for an art video which recounts some of my sacred journey and pilgrimage up this Mountain. In this series of three webinars, hosted by Christian Thurow (who will also anchor the sacred masculine element) I will introduce you to three Maidens/Disir/Healers in every class (3 x 3 = 9)! I will give you practical pointers for embarking on an apprenticeship with these Nine Maidens.

This means that you will work with one Maiden exclusively for an entire week, in the month following every webinar. If , by the final webinar, you decide to build a lifelong relationship with them, I will give you suggestions for setting the right intentions and parameters for that work.

Fjölsvinnsmál is the second of two Old Norse poems commonly published under the title Svipdagsmál , “The Lay of Svipdagr". These poems are found together in several 17th-century paper manuscripts with Fjölsvinnsmál. In at least three of these manuscripts, the poems appear in reverse order and are separated by a third Eddic poem titled Hyndluljóð.
