Sleipnir & The Horse Rune: Partnership - Soul Conductor - Mysterious Twins - Webinar with Imelda Almqvist
Thu 28 May 2020 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
"The horse is a joy to princes in the presence of warriors.
A steed in the pride of its hoofs,
when rich men on horseback bandy words about it;
and it is ever a source of comfort to the restless."
-The Anglosaxon Rune Poem
This is the fifth class in a series of seminars for (Aspiring) Rune Magicians, taught by Imelda Almqvist and hosted by Christian Thurow. In this webinar we will focus on The Horse Rune Ehwaz or Eh (its Scandinavian name). This is the rune of the soul quest, of moving freely between worlds. It is also the rune of partnership, cooperation and otherworld allies.
The most famous horse in Norse cosmology is Sleipnir, Odin’s steed. His birth is highly unusual: he is the child of trickster god Loki and a stallion called Svaðilfari. He is said to be the best horse ever and he navigates all the worlds of Norse cosmology with ease.
Horses were very important to Old Norse people. Some scholars believe that they were viewed as a means of transcending worlds and blurring the boundaries between the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead. They also appear in other traditions as soul conductors or psycho pomps – delivering the newly dead to the right destination or realm in the Afterlife.
Horses are often said to have a supernatural ability to carry their rider over water, along the sky and through fire, making the Horse a powerful ally and partner for human beings. Through our relationship with horses we can learn powerful lessons about partnership, cooperation, even a mirroring of emotions, thoughts and dynamics. (Horses will reflect your best qualities and pitfalls right back at you. This is why horses are used in a modality called “systemic constellations work with horses”, to map patterns in relationships!)
The Horse rune is a symmetrical sign: it can be split into two identical halves. Our webinar will explore a possible connection to The Alcis, the Divine Twins. They were a pair of twin brother gods worshiped among the early Germanic peoples, mentioned by Tacitus. The belief in the Alcis may have reached its height in the period of the Nordic Bronze Age, meaning it predates the Norse Gods as we know and perceive them today! We will explore their mysteries...
This class builds on previous webinars and takes our comprehension to yet another level. It also offers yet more tools for pandemic times. However, please note that every class stands alone: you need not have attended the previous classes to be able to join and follow this class!
For now think: ally, partner, soul mate, companion beyond death . For more: join our webinar!
Please note that this class takes place on Thursday May 28 th , at 8 pm London Time (British Summer Time). Please consult the world clock to adjust this time for your own location: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/!
