Hail is the whitest of grain;

it is whirled from the vault of heaven

and is tossed about by gusts of wind

and then it melts into water.

-The Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem

This is the sixth class in a series of seminars for (Aspiring) Rune Magicians, taught by Imelda Almqvist and hosted by Christian Thurow. In this closing webinar of our “Lockdown Series” we will focus on Rune Hagal, literally the rune of Hail, indicating sudden cataclysmic change, but (on an esoteric level) also the Rune of Witchcraft!

Hagal represents a combination of destructive and creative forces. It brings renewal through destruction of the established order. It clears the air and brings a new phase of progress. It breaks up all that is stagnant. In plain English: Hagal knocks you right out of your comfort zone, often by destroying something you hold dear (a key relationship, feeling at home in a certain place or community, your health, financial security and so forth).

Hagal can turn your life upside down, shatter all expectations and preconceived ideas but it makes room for growth, learning, evolution of human consciousness. The god Heimdallr, who stands on guard by Bifrost (The Rainbow Bridge) had to sacrifice one of his ears to acquire super hearing.

Working with Scandinavian material, Hagal is also the Rune of Witchcraft. Witches are seers, healers and change agents. They will “do the necessary” and this will not always make them popular. They often operate on the fringe of society, on the edge of the forest where they collect their herbs and medicine.

To be a healer and to bring our communities powerful medicine, we need to understand the processes of death and destruction. We also need to make our peace with our own death and make allies of our fears. Within Rune Hagal we find a lot of “reversal medicine”!

This class builds on previous webinars and takes our comprehension of the Runes and Norse cosmology to yet another level. It also offers yet more tools for pandemic times. However, please note that every class stands alone: you need not have attended the previous classes to be able to join and follow this class.

This class takes place on Thursday September 10th, at 8 pm London Time (British Summer Time).

Please consult the world clock to adjust this time for your own location: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/!

The class will be recorded and the recording will be shared with all ticket holders for 30 days.
