🌊 A Vigil for the River Lea Sunday 25 October | 5–7pm Leaside, Hackney. The venue will be open till 10pm if anyone wants to carry on the discussion and has a licensed bar.

Join local residents, river lovers, campaigners and performers for A Vigil for the River Lea — an evening bringing together local stories, evidence, creativity and action for a river in need of change. Hear from people who know and care for the Lea, explore what’s affecting its health and who is responsible, and take part in a fun, interactive session unpacking the facts around sewage, pollution, water bills and the Clean Water Bill. The evening will also feature a special appearance from Fisherman Jon, with comedy and live performance from Coral Bevan. We’ll finish by taking practical action together — writing to MPs, sharing local stories, recording short testimonies and connecting people into ongoing local activity. Diane Abbott MP has been invited to attend, and the event is part of Surfers Against Sewage’s national #CleanTheBill campaign. Event Plan - Leaside Hackney. All ages welcome. You don’t need to be an expert — you just need to care about where the water goes.

The event is part of the wider Clean the Bill campaign and provides an opportunity to bring local evidence and community experience into conversations about the future of the water system. The Clean Water Bill includes proposals to protect public health and the environment and to give greater protection to recreational water users.
