The Knightingales – Wartime Remembrance Dance
“Lest We Forget” – Remembrance Wartime Dance with The Knightingales
This has to be one of our most popular dances of the year, and there is always something very special about the atmosphere – fantastic fun, but at the same time respectful of the occasion and the generation we are remembering.
As always, we will be going to great lengths to transform the hall into a 1940s wartime dance hall, and our collection of period props and memorabilia just seems to grow every year! So why not really get into the spirit of the evening and come dressed in 1940s Allied uniform or civilian dress? There will be a prize for the best dressed and, who knows ladies, you may even get the opportunity to dance with a G.I.! Of course, dressing up is completely optional. If it isn’t for you, please don’t worry – just come as you are. It is your company that is important.
This year, we are delighted to welcome the fabulous three-girl harmony group, The Knightingales, to Ruby’s.
If ever there was a group made for our Remembrance Wartime Dance, it has to be these three incredibly talented ladies. With their beautiful three-part harmonies, glamorous period styling and polished choreography, The Knightingales recreate the sound and spirit of the 1940s with wonderful authenticity.
Expect the stirring songs of the Blitz, fabulous Swing and Jazz standards and those unforgettable wartime favourites that defined a generation. Their 1940s repertoire includes classics such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, In the Mood, Sing Sing Sing and Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree. Close your eyes and those wonderful harmonies will transport you straight back to the days of Glenn Miller and The Andrews Sisters – open them again and their costumes, choreography and infectious stage presence complete the picture! With a resume that compliments their talent, performances include Goodwood Revival, Twinwood and Retro Festival, Brooklands Museumand internationally performing their 1940s show in Normandy, at Port-Bail-sur-Mer. You won’t want to miss them.
Between sets, Shakin’ Shep (Surrey Jive’s resident DJ) will be playing some fantastic Swing and RnB music to compliment the theme (no Rock n’ Roll this month, it will return in December).
Our dances are well attended with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for all. Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall presents a large sprung dance floor, licensed bar and large free car park or motor pool. The hall is situated close to the M25.
Thank you very much, everyone and see you on the dance floor at The Home of Happy Feet!
