Afternoon Tea FAQs

Is food and drink included in the price?

Yes, the price includes Fizz and afternoon tea (sandwiches, savouries, cake, tea, coffee).

Can you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes we can, please advise of any specific dietary requirements by emailing surreysews@gmail.com.

Where will the afternoon tea be?

The event will be held at The Lighthouse, 8-10 High St, Woking GU21 6BG.

How do I get there?

The Lighthouse is 2 minutes from Woking train station. If you’re driving, there is no parking on site but many multi-storey car parks in Woking. P.S. Don't get confused with "The Lightbox", which is nearby.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes

Will we be sewing at the event?

No, this isn’t a sewing event or workshop, but instead a chance to meet and chat with fellow sewists.

I can no longer make it, can I get a refund?

Sorry we cannot refund tickets, but you are welcome to sell your ticket to another person if you wish.

Do I have to make a special outfit?

Only if you want to! Come wearing your own me made garment or accessory, it doesn’t have to be new.

Do I have to take part in the catwalk?

No! The catwalk is an informal, optional opportunity to show off your make…but only if you want to!

I’m not an experienced sewist, can I still attend?

Yes! We welcome all skill levels and abilities. This is a chance to meet like-minded people, share tips and ideas and make new friends!

Can you tell me more about the work of The Lighthouse?

The aim of the Lighthouse is to encourage, empower and equip people who are having a hard time in their lives. We have a large range of projects including the Food Bank, a nurture group, money advice, a style studio and a community lunch which Mel Keane and her husband run. Mel and Eleanor have set up a sewing project at the Barnsbury Lighthouse centre. Both Mel and Eleanor are members of @surreysews.

We’ve called the project “Sewing Stillness” as it’s a place for vulnerable women to come and sew and to forget about their daily struggles. Money raised at the afternoon tea will go towards fabrics, haberdashery and machines. If you’d like to know more then please contact Mel on surreysews@gmail.com and she’ll be happy to help. Mel previously ran a project at the Guildford refugee centre and is keen to help others establish projects in their own area.

I can’t make the event, are there any other ways I can get involved?

Yes! We have an exciting challenge coming later in the summer, which will be open to everyone! More details to follow soon.
