Masterclass: Beyond the Basics - Mindfulness Based Inclusion Training and our social web of interactions.
with Dean Francis, EDI Consultant at Sussex Mindfulness Centre.
Join us as we come together to look at what mindfulness can bring to the table around social inclusion and what awareness of our social context can bring to mindfulness. In this insightful Masterclass, Dean will share how our differences can unify rather than separate us and how mindfulness can be culturally adapted to serve diverse communities and individuals in ways that are grounded in Justice, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) work!
Together we will unpack some of the habitual patterns, assumptions, expectation and goals that result in projections we use to navigate both mindfulness, and the world around us.
By increasing awareness and understanding of how and why secular mindfulness practice requires attitudinal foundations rooted in JEDI work, this unique masterclass will facilitate insight into how we are relating in a diverse world so that we can better cultivate actions of connection, agency, purpose, self-worth, humility, inclusion and solidarity both within and between mindfulness trainings and communities.
Through cultivating deep humility, acceptance of uncertainty and constant system change. This session will invite participants to step into a space of psychological safety and thus unlimited potential to collaborate and innovate in ways that unlock the social, cultural and clinical potential of mindfulness. This is achieved by collective exploration of authenticity, relationality, intersectionality, positionality and integrity so vital if we are to ‘deepen compassion’ and subsequent access to mindfulness trainings. So, if you're ready to explore how mindfulness might alleviate identity-based harm collectively, this is the Masterclass for you!
Dean Francis is the EDI Consultant at Sussex Mindfulness Centre. He is also a Trustee and EDI co-lead at BAMBA and a co-founder of the Urban Mindfulness Foundation CIC and the Mindfulness Based Inclusion Training (MBIT) programme for mindfulness teachers and the Black and People of Colour Community. Dean studied a masters in mindfulness with the University of Aberdeen where he focused on deconstructing racism and social inequality using the MBIT programme.
Join us to gain insight into this uniquely social and cultural paradigm of mindfulness that introduces Ancient African Wisdoms to nurture the inner and outer relationships required for reconnecting to ourselves, each other and the planet. By working collaboratively to dismantle the sense of separation, isolation and loneliness that can lead to polarisation, tribalism and its associated psychological challenges we will uncover that which obscures our interconnected reality.
