Sussex Surplus presents Together at the Table!

We're excited to take our monthly communal dining event to Old School Studios, a beautiful creative space in Whitehawk run by the charity Artcore.

What better way to respond to divisive times than by eating communally?
What if the clever use of surplus food meant you could feast affordably?
What if professionally cooked community meals were available outside of working hours and accessible for all?

Let's gather Together at the Table to answer these questions and more whilst enjoying delicious seasonal food in good company.

Your 'Meal Deal' ticket includes a hot, two-course vegetarian meal, made with the best of this seasons surplus produce. Children aged 5 and under eat free, those aged 5-15 are half price. Thanks to our recent crowdfunder we price tickets at below what it costs us to host these events - if you're able to donate on top of the ticket then please do!

Alongside our meal we want to provide a platform to champion local producers and guests will have the chance to buy direct from a local farm. At this event we're delighted that we'll be joined by Sophie from Pitfield Veg in Hurstpierpont who will have a stall of delicious fresh seasonal produce available for sale.

Because we want EVERYONE to be invited, we're also offering guests the chance to Pay It Forward (PIF) by purchasing additional meals for people who may be prevented from attending due to the price. These meals will be distributed by invitation via trusted community groups. Sussex Surplus have served up over 19,000 nutritious community meals in East Brighton since we started up during the pandemic days, and our professional chefs and trainees have created everything from buffets to banquets for our event catering services. Inspired by communal dining projects like The Long Table in Stroud and Absalon in Copenhagen, we dipped our toe into this format in autumn 2025 and loved the atmosphere the meals created. And now in 2026 we want to continue hosting these events and take them to the next level.
