This ride will use mostly quiet roads to get to Bramall Hall, via Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme and returning via Adswood and Edgeley. There are a couple of short off-road sections.

Did you know that some of the most influential people responsible for creating the North West’s industrial landscape lived in Stockport? Go back 200 years to discover their houses and relive what life would have been like for Stockport’s middle classes in the 19th century. We will cycle past the sites of up to 25 of these houses, stopping occasionally to relate some of their family’s tales.

We start on the Didsbury Road, where at least 10 of these large houses stood. Sadly many are now demolished, but we find others still standing when we reach Cheadle, including Abney Hall and Bruntwood. We then weave our way through Cheadle Hulme to reach the grandest house of them all, Bramall Hall. Described by Historic Houses as “one of the most beautiful treasures of England”, Bramall Hall doesn’t disappoint and you could easily spend most of the day here…..but we have to get back, and our return through Adswood and Edgeley takes in a handful more sites of old houses, before returning to Heaton Moor along the River Mersey .

This event is designed for families and is perfect for riders of all skill levels. It is mostly on quiet roads and cycle paths, although we do have to cross the occasional busy road (our ride leaders have all been trained to manage large cycling groups in urban areas!). There are some short gravel sections, which can be rough in parts and we recommend at least 28mm tyres. Electric bikes and trailers are welcome.

This is mostly urban cycling, with occasional forays into park and recreation areas.

Please bring a roadworthy bike, a drink and a picnic lunch. There will be an opportunity for refreshments at Bramall Hall which has a cafe visitor centre at 4 miles.

Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. We ride rain or shine!

Under 18s are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
