Docent for Self-Guided Tours

Docents assist during self-guided tour days by greeting visitors, directing guest flow, checking in attendees, and collecting admission fees. Volunteers in this role help welcome guests, protect the safety of the site, and guide visitors in proper visitor etiquette while onsite.

Docents help interpret the site by explaining museum artifacts, historic displays, and the purpose of various buildings and structures throughout the Sutro Tunnel Site.

Docents may also direct visitors to guided public or private tours that include access to the tunnel interior.
