This participative online workshop will help you understand what skills and behaviours are valued by different sectors, explore ways to identify and communicate your considerable existing transferable skills and pinpoint strategies to further develop desirable skills. Your facilitator, Dr Sabina Strachan is an example of the transferability of the skills you will have cultivated during your PhD. She will share her ‘squiggly career’ path as an example with you. This workshop will spotlight different approaches that align with the different goals and strengths we each have and highlight the importance of workplace culture and workplace environment in supporting goals and nurturing strengths. Using glucard™ tools you will practise ways to cultivate or demonstrate two sought-after skills and develop specific actions to take forward.
By the end of this workshop, you will have:
-Understood how to identify skills and behaviours that are valued by different sectors
-Practised ways to identify your own transferable skills
-Understood challenges that might affect career transition
-Discussed opportunities that provide opportunities for skills development
-Been introduced to strategies to develop desirable skills
-Links to sources of support and guidance around inclusive practice and career development
-Practised two of these strategies as individuals and with peer support around a specific key skill
