Join bestselling author, public speaker, and professor of psychology Dr. Katriona O’Sullivan, for a conversation event about her writing and memoirs, with author Mary O'Donnell.
Katriona O’Sullivan’s first book, ‘Poor: Grit, Courage, and the Life-Changing Value of Self-Belief’, debuted at number 1 on the Irish Non-Fiction bestseller list. It describes her journey from poverty, teenage pregnancy and homelessness to graduating with a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and becoming an award-winning lecturer whose work challenges barriers to education. It describes the far-reaching impact of childhood poverty. Her latest book 'Hungry: A biography of my body' explores how trauma, class and gender shape the way women see themselves and how society teaches them to measure their value.
Katriona O’Sullivan is a dedicated advocate for education and social inclusion. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Assisting Living & Learning Institute, Department of Psychology, Maynooth University and the Principal Investigator on the STEM Passport for Inclusion project, featured recently on RTE's Changemaker series. Katriona has held research grants from the Irish Research Council and Science Foundation Ireland, leading an initiative to tackle digital inequality in education.
Mary O'Donnell is an Irish novelist and poet, journalist, broadcaster and teacher. She has written and published six novels, including The Elysium Testament and Where They Lie, and Sweep the Cobwebs off the Sky (Époque Press UK), ten collections of poetry (including Those April Fevers Arc UK 2015 and "Massacre of the Birds", Salmon 2020), and four volumes of short stories. She has taught creative writing at Maynooth University and has been a judge for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the Hennessy Literary Award, the Strokestown International Poetry Competition, Poetry Now and the Irish Times/Mountains to Sea Poetry Prize. Mary is a member of Aosdána.
