If you love Oregon wine but don't know Patricia Green Cellars, this tasting is a must!
Patricia “Patty” Green became one of Oregon's most respected winemakers by doing things a little differently. With no formal winemaking degree and a career that started with picking grapes and cellar work, Patty developed an almost intuitive understanding of vineyards and a simple philosophy: don't make the wines follow a house style; make them taste like where they came from.
In 2000, Patty and longtime winemaking partner Jim Anderson founded Patricia Green Cellars in Ribbon Ridge and became almost obsessive about exploring the Willamette Valley vineyard by vineyard, sometimes even block by block. Different soils, elevations, vine ages and growing conditions weren't things to smooth over, they were the whole point. Showcasing that philosophy, the wines can be floral, earthy, savory, delicate, structured or downright surprising depending on where they're grown. And while Pinot Noir made Patricia Green famous, that same vineyard-first approach carries through the whites and rosé as well.
When Patty died unexpectedly in 2017, the winery didn't really change hands. Jim had worked beside her since 1995 and was already head winemaker. Today he continues what they built together, with the same curiosity about vineyards and the same determination to let each wine be itself.
For this Wine School, Dave Sobiesk will lead us through the Patricia Green lineup and discover why this quietly influential winery has earned such a devoted following among people who know Oregon wine.
