This amazing weather has me dreaming of the Mediterranean Coast of France - from the Languedoc to Provence, it's one of the most breathtakingly beautiful areas of the world AND it's the home of some of my favorite French wines. It also gives me the perfect excuse to highlight a newly released 2020 rosé just in time for this warm weather.
French Spritz! We'll start you off with one of the best beach or poolside beverage, a light and refreshing spritz! French wine brightened up with botanicals and a little effervescence, perfect for a warm day on the coast or the bayou...
2020 Domaine Lafage Miraflors Rosé - Named after an old estate located in the heart of Domaine Lafage, Mas Miraflors, the Miraflors Rosé is sourced from old vines of Grenache Gris and Noir, some nearing 80 years old, planted near the Mediterranean. Year after year this wine is always a store favorite and I think 2020 is the best vintage yet.
2019 Domaine de Castelnau Picpoul de Pinet L'Etang - It has grown by Étang de Thau, a string of lagoons stretching from the coast to the Pyrénées, for centuries, but it’s only fairly recently that Picpoul de Pinet has gained widespread appreciation as a dry white wine. Picpoul’s name literally translates to ‘lip stinger’, due to its zingy acidity. In Languedoc, Picpoul de Pinet wines are often paired with local shellfish like mussels and oysters, as its zesty acidity makes it a prime partner for seafood, hence the perfect New Orleans white!
2017 Château Puech-Haut, Languedoc Prestige Rouge - Located near the far western border of the Rhône valley, Chateau Puech-Haut benefits from both its proximity to the Mediterranean and the rugged, mountainous interior of France. Combining 65-80 year old Grenache with 45 year old Syrah then fermented and aged concrete, they have crafted a dense and powerful wine that captures the warm climate of the Mediterranean. Organic and practicing biodynamic, it is a critic's favorite rating 90+ points year after year.
