Friday Night Wine School - Sicilian Wines with Tasca d'Almerita

Fri May 20, 2022 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM CDT Swirl, 70119

Join us for our attendance-limited, signup-only Friday night tasting!  Tastings are held on the back patio with a max of 10 people per time slot.

Lorenzo Gucci from Tasca d'Almerita joins us this week for a tasting of Sicilian wines. For eight generations, the Tasca d’Almerita family has been devoted to Sicily, its land, its unique nature and its surprising resources. Their story began in 1830 with the purchase of Tenuta Regaleali, a green oasis spanning nearly 550 hectares in the center of the island where 8 generations have fostered the past, present and future of Sicilian winemaking. Regaleali is an unpredictable and breathtaking place, even for the experienced traveler. Luscious hills roll endlessly in several shades of green, with vineyards unlike any other in the world. Perceptible diurnal temperature swings and high elevation with great sun exposure make their location a wine makers paradise.  They have since expanded their vineyard holdings, giving them access to some of the best terroirs on the island.  Our event will feature a nice sampling of their different estates.  We'll be tasting the following wines, Regaleali Bianco (90 pts), Grillo Cavallo delle Fate (90 pts), Catarratto Buonsenso (NYR), Perricone Guarnaccio (92 pts), and their flagship red, Rosso del Conte (96 pts) - Don't miss this event!

From Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media - I think that what impresses me most about the Tasca portfolio is the high level of quality throughout. It’s not uncommon for such a large brand to make a small number of excellent wines from their best sources, yet allow the rest of their production to be substandard, but that’s not the case here. Whether it was the formidable flagship Rosso del Conte from the Regaleali estate, the single-vineyard Rampante from Etna or the value-oriented Bianco Regaleali, each performed well above their price points. You’ll find indigenous varieties, Italian varieties and international ones, yet only planted within a terroir where they excel; and while Tasca doesn’t fear the use of new oak, it is applied judiciously, used to elevate, not get in the way of the wines. When all is said and done, exploring Sicily through Tasca d’Almerita would be both an educational and a highly enjoyable experience.
