SKIZA 003 W/ 999ADJ
For the third edition of SKIZA, we're joined by 999ADJ, a multidisciplinary artist, DJ, archivist, and curator whose practice explores the intersections of Black music histories, folklore, and ecological memory. Through sound, visual culture, and archival research, they bridge ancestral knowledge with contemporary underground expression, approaching DJing as a form of cultural preservation and transmission. They are the founder of 999heard, an artist-led collective producing cultural programming, and 999 Heard Radio, an archival radio platform dedicated to sonic documentation and diasporic memory.
For this session, 999ADJ reflects on the evolving ideas of home and identity through the music that has accompanied them across different places and stages of life. As someone whose sense of home has always been in motion, they'll share the records, books, and videos that have provided continuity, comfort, and belonging. Moving through highlife, Detroit techno, punk, Chicago house, dub, and beyond, the session explores how music can become an anchor when everything else is in flux.
SKIZA is a listening series designed to deepen how we experience music. Through guided selections, storytelling, and conversation, featured speakers unpack their relationship to music, their creative process, and the cultural influences that shape their perspective. It's an invitation to slow down, listen intentionally, and discover new worlds through sound.
