THE TEACHERS
Rafael Busch (Germany).
A tango sensation from Germany Started his dance journey in ballet (fancy!) before falling head over heels for tango in 1993 Co-founder of the renowned Tangotanzen Macht Schön in Berlin – a school known for its warm, welcoming vibe and top-notch instruction
Not just a great teacher but also a people person with a knack for making classes fun and insightful. What makes his teaching special? Rafael blends precision, humour and an understanding of human connection (he’s even trained in therapy!) to create tango lessons that will elevate your dancing and your confidence on the floor. He’s all about authentic movement, improvisation, and making sure both leaders and followers feel equally empowered. You’re going to love his workshops – they’re packed with energy, knowledge, and just the right amount of laughter. Get ready to learn, laugh, and tango your heart out with Rafael at Kegworth this March!
Alice Spencer & Mark Hazeldine (England)
Alice and Mark of Tango Encantado bring together a wealth of experience as they blend a background in professional classical ballet and amateur dance styles ranging from ballroom to the more relaxed expressive modern jive and Argentine tango. They both discovered tango in Cheltenham in 2009 and soon started dancing and working together. Studying under Juan Manuel Acosta, Claudio Gonzalez, Julia Urruty and others, plus their exposure to different tango and music styles, along with their dance backgrounds and teaching experiences led them to a unique style that they are able to explain, demonstrate and set to music for their students. They have performed, taught and coached with a number of small amateur tango shows across England and over in Europe. In 2022 they set up Tango Encantado which runs weekly traditional and nuevo classes, mixed music tea dances and neolongas. Alice also DJs at her own and other national events including the Cheltenham International Festathon
Mark McCormick & Diane Kerry (England)
We are delighted to welcome back the very popular Diane Kerry & Mark McCormick. For those of you who don't know them...Why and how not?! Let us fill in the gaps. Diane and Mark started dancing tango 14 years ago, stepping sideways from the Blues environment. They became enchanted with the beauty and connection of the dance, and increasingly the desire to play with the embrace, and find the wonderful yet complex peace within each movement. With their knowledge of both dances... expect to be surprised and delighted by their workshops for you on the weekender! They find alternative music and it's timing incredibly expressive, in a slightly different, but just as luscious way to traditional music. She thoroughly enjoys leading now as much as following, so this extra skill set gives her a great insight when she is teaching as she can quickly and easily swap rolls and demonstrate 'feel' to both sides when working with students. Diane and Mark teach regularly at Bury St Edmunds Tango. However their tango journey has also seen them teaching classes, both traditional and alternative styles, regularly in several places across Europe. Diane personally sees dance as a wonderful playground, and she gets huge pleasure from encouraging fellow dancers on their path over the climbing frame and down the slide, and into the fun arms of Tango. I'm sure that you will feel the same when you have met both of them and experienced them first hand.
ALT TANGO MUSIC
Many people love dancing Tango to non-traditional Tango music. Any music that isn't traditional Tango music is an 'alternative' to what you would hear at a traditional milonga. The music played at the weekender will be Alternative, world music, nuevo, electro and modern Tango, all structured with you as a Tango dancer in mind. There will be no tandas, no cortinas, just a huge variety of superb music that will inspire you to dance.
ALT TANGO MILONGAS
Every evening there will be a top quality Alt Tango milonga through to the wee small hours. These milongas will consist of some of the country's most experienced Alt Tango DJs playing incredible music for you to dance to, on one of the very best dance-floors in Europe. Surrounded by friendly dancers who share your passion for all things Tango.
