Educating for Change: Global Citizenship in Action is Scotland’s inaugural Five Nations Global Citizenship Education Conference, bringing together teachers, education professionals and partner organisations for a day of inspiring professional learning, practical workshops and critical conversation.

At a time of growing global division and uncertainty, education has a vital role in helping young people understand the world, question injustice and recognise their capacity to contribute to positive change. This conference will explore how global citizenship can be meaningfully embedded across the curriculum, not as an additional subject, but as an approach connecting classroom learning with the issues shaping learners’ lives and the wider world.

Throughout the day, delegates will explore:

  • Peace education
  • Antiracist education
  • Political literacy
  • Critical thinking
  • Digital discourse
  • Practical approaches to global citizenship across the curriculum

The programme is designed to strengthen educators’ knowledge and confidence while providing practical ideas and resources that can be taken back into classrooms and learning communities. There will also be opportunities to connect with colleagues and organisations committed to equalities, social justice and active citizenship.

The conference forms part of the wider Five Nations Network, which brings together educators and organisations from Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland to advance global citizenship education, supported by the Association of Citizenship Teaching and the Gordon Cooke Foundation. It builds upon the success of the Network’s 2026 conference in Belfast, Challenging Hate, Building Hope: The Role of Active Citizenship and Activism.

Join us for a day of learning, connection and action as we consider how education can equip learners not only to understand the world, but to help change it.
