Moonlit Echoes at Manjing
Dialogue Among Civilisations Series
USTB Humanities Ensemble in Concert
The University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) is one of China’s leading universities, renowned for its strengths in science, engineering and innovation, while also placing great importance on the cultivation of arts and humanities.
This special performance brings to Cambridge the USTB Humanities Ensemble, a group made up primarily of students from across the university. Through music, these young performers explore the dialogue between tradition and contemporary life, heritage and innovation, China and the wider world.
At the heart of the programme is Moonlit Echoes at Manjing, an original orchestral work composed by Professor Han Xuezhou, Vice Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Director of the Centre for Humanistic Education at USTB. Inspired by Manjing, a historic cultural landmark on the USTB campus, the piece evokes a moonlit journey through time, where the voices of ancient scholars and modern students resonate across generations.
Presented as part of the Dialogue Among Civilisations Series, this concert offers an opportunity for audiences in Cambridge to experience original Chinese musical works and to engage with the stories, memories and cultural traditions that continue to inspire a new generation of young artists.
