A Breathing Space – Mindfulness for Grief is a gentle three-week course for parents who have experienced the loss of a baby within the last 12 months.
Across three supportive group sessions, we will offer a combination of bereavement support and guided mindfulness practices, creating a safe and compassionate space to pause, breathe to help soothe the physical and emotional impact of grief.
The sessions also offer an opportunity to connect with other bereaved parents who understand what you are going through.
The three-week course will take place on:
- Monday 18th January – 8pm
- Monday 25th January – 8pm
- Monday 1st February – 8pm
Session 1 - Finding our ground - finding steadiness in the body and breath when the world feels unsteady
Session 2 - The haven of the breath - when grief takes our breath away
Session 3 - Being with - Responding not reacting - learning how to direct our attention to the present moment when our thoughts overwhelm us
The sessions will be guided in- session by Nicola Whitworth , a Mindfulness teacher trained by Oxford Mindfulness Centre. You can visit mindfulnessforeverydayliving.com for more information about mindfulness
When the unthinkable happens and our baby or child dies, our grief needs space, room to be accommodated and held in a safe haven. Mindfulness provides that haven. By practising Mindfulness, we give our minds and bodies a break from the relentlessness of grieving. In meditation, we begin to cultivate steadiness within the storm of grief, learning how to surf the waves that we fear will sweep us up.
Mindfulness does not fix us or force us to find a solution. It is a way of being, giving us the breathing space, again and again, to respond and adjust to life without the physical presence of our baby or child.
By learning Mindfulness practices of breathing meditation, body awareness and reflection we learn to listen to what we truly need. We grow in confidence again from a self that feels shattered by loss. Mindfulness helps to restore hope in beginning to make sense of life after loss.
Spaces are limited to 10 and are paid for by Teddy's Wish. Zoom details will be emailed ahead of the event.
