Part 1: 9:30 - 11:30 AM - Room Athena A2.07,
Part 2: 3:00 - 5:00 PM - Room Athena A3.10

This workshop is tailored for newcomers and people with some experience in Blender, this workshop, delivered by Dennis van Kessel from Atomhawk, guides you through the essentials of Blender for creating awesome blockouts. From using internet sources and Bridge to find 3D forms, to mastering lighting, atmosphere, and camera angles, you learn to create compelling scenes. The workshop covers Blender's interface and basic tools, lighting techniques and atmosphere manipulation to enhance visual narratives, and mastering camera angles for your scene.
Dennis van Kessel is a concept artist and illustrator with over five years industry experience. He has most recently worked on Mortal Kombat 1 and Judas. As a Teesside University graduate, Dennis embarked on his professional journey during his undergraduate studies, securing internships at both indie and mobile game studios. Starting as an intern at Atomhawk, he moved into a permanent role while studying his degree at Teesside.
Part 1: Creating 3D Block-outs with Blender
In the first part of the workshop, we’ll jump into the world of 3D art using Blender. We'll keep it relatively simple, demonstrating how to make captivating 3D scenes quickly. I’ll also cover how to add lights, create atmosphere, and set up cameras for awesome
visuals. By the end, you should have an awesome 3D Block-out to work with!
Part 2: Refining your Art in Photoshop
In the second part, we'll refine and enhance your 3D creation. I'll guide you through the steps of preparing your 3D files for a final polished look. Then, in Photoshop, I’ll show you how to add style, textures, and details, making your 3D art more visually
interesting. You'll learn to blend digital painting with your 3D work, creating stunning, ready-to-showcase art pieces.
Booking is required as places are limited. This workshop is not part of the Animex Festival ticket.
