Workshop: Practical Application Of Artistic Principles For VFX
Wed 8 Nov 2023 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Teesside University Campus - Phoenix building, P1.08, TS1 3BX
Description
Software and tools are constantly changing in visual effects, but one thing that remains constant is the fundamental artistic principles that underpin any still or moving image. However these artistic fundamentals can be tricky to study as they sometimes seem to lack practical application. This workshop will aim to shed some light on the process of creating artistically pleasing shots. We'll break down the creation of shots, delving into key concepts such as colour, composition, object design, shot design, lighting and atmosphere. This will leave you with an understanding of how to control your VFX shots and level up your work from merely technically proficient to something that has artistic merit and makes you stand out from the crowd.
Nick Marshall is a DFX Supervisor at DNEG. He has over a decade of experience in the industry, beginning his VFX career at DNEG London in 2009 as a Runner. Nick went on to spend the majority of his career as an Environments Artist and in 2015, when DNEG’s Vancouver studio opened, he made the move to North America. Shortly after, he stepped into the role of Head of Department for Environments and Generalists, overseeing work on blockbuster films including ‘Dune’ and ‘Uncharted’. Nick made the move back into show supervision in 2021 as DFX Supervisor on HBO’s hit series ‘The Last of Us’ and is currently DFX Supervisor on ‘Dune: Part Two’.
