Hinemihi: The House with the Golden Eyes

“The Whare tupuna Hinemihi o Te Ao Tawhito saved Jim Schuster's ancestors during the Tarawera eruption of 1886 but since then she has resided in an English country garden in Clandon Park, Surrey for the last 135 years.

Now Jim and his whānau are returning to England to save her. It is time for the revered ancestress of Ngāti Hinemihi to come home to Tūhourangi. Home to Te Arawa."

Join us for a screening of the documentary, Hinemihi: The House with the Golden Eyes. Find out about Hinemihi's journey and her significance to her iwi/tribe  in Aotearoa/New Zealand and the diaspora community in Rānana/London.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion that explores the making the film and the carving 'Exchange' of Hinemihi from the UK to Aotearoa.
