A special all singing all dancing Sunday Session celebrates the launch of the brand new album from NEL UNLIT. Titled EPHEMERA; OR, TOSH AND THE GIRL, this album was recorded at the renowned Greenmount Studios (Yard Act, Do Nothing, Pulled Apart By Horses) and comes out on the superb Butterfly Effect label.
The album tells the story of Tosh, a floundering single father and serial hoarder, and explores his co-dependent paternal partnership with his teenage daughter and his fractured relationship with her estranged mother.
Opening single SO, BASICALLY has been played all over BBC Introducing and sees the band add bubbling, Swans-esque feedback guitars to their rich, character-driven lyrics.
The band officially formed in 2016 from past and present members of Sullivan and Gold, Dilettante, Dressed Like Wolves, Pellethead, General Sherman and Hold Music and began releasing music through DIY label Spooker Rekkids, based in the attic of musical institution Westgarth Social Club. Singles “Fireflies” and “Apple” earned the band critical acclaim, radio play on BBC Radio 6, track of the week on BBC Tees and comparisons to Nick Drake, Richard Dawson, Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver.
The multi-instrumental septet, have developed an immersive live show, complete with violin, cello, saxophone, clarinet, accordion, samplers and two drummers and have played extensively throughout the UK including festivals, Hardwick Live, Tipping Point, Twisterella and Stockton Calling.
A stellar supporting cast includes Base Camp favourite Faithful Johannes, the wonderful Benjamin Amos fresh from supporting Cattle & Cane at the Globe + virtuoso multi-instrumentalist folk rising star Harriet Bradshaw.
